William Dean McCarter

November 5, 1925 — April 9, 2014

William Dean McCarter, Sr., 88, of 14 Wofford Street went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, April 9th, at his home.
Mr. McCarter was born in the Holson Creek Community of Spartanburg County on November 5, 1925, a son of the late E. Gentry and Leola Hammett McCarter. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Loftis) McCarter and had recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Dean was a longtime, faithful member of Inman Mills Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Assistant Secretary of the Sunday School Department, The Stewardship Committee, the adult choir and Seekers of Souls SS Class.
He was also a very active member of the Inman Lions Club since 1956 where he served as secretary and treasurer for 40 years. Dean had retired from Hilton-Davis Chemical Company, where he worked as a laboratory director with 35 years of service. His most recent position was at Colormate, Inc. with 8 years of service before retirement. He was a member of the American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorists. He also served in the U.S. Navy in WW II in the Asiatic Pacific participating in nine invasions earning several medals and ribbons.
In addition to his loving wife Doris, he is survived by two sons, Billy McCarter, Randy McCarter (Kelli), three brothers Ray McCarter, Larry McCarter (Nancy), Harry James McCarter (Nancy) all of Inman and a sister Mildred Wofford of Spartanburg.He was predeceased by two brothers, Wilburn and R. G. McCarter and a sister, Margie Burnette.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Inman Mills Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jack Hames and Chaplain Gary Jordan. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 AM Friday in the church sanctuary. The Inman Lions Club and the Seekers of Souls Sunday School Class are to serve as Honorary Escort. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home.
