William Avery Huneycutt

December 18, 1936 — January 16, 2019

William Avery Huneycutt, 82, of Inman, SC died 1/16/2019 of a pulmonary embolism.
He was a native of Albemarle, Stanly County, NC and married to Eleanor Elaine Reese. He was the son of the late Oscar Alexander Huneycutt and Vivian Mae Barnes Huneycutt of Albemarle, NC. Avery & Eleanor moved their family to Spartanburg, SC in 1967.
Avery attended Mars Hill College where he met Eleanor. He was a graduate of N.C. State University in Civil Engineering. He began his career as a TVA Hydrology & Drainage Engineer over the Eastern Tennessee area for 10 years. He was the former Director of Engineering for the City of Spartanburg for 11 years. He was a former Construction Engineer for building the R. & R. Donnelly Plant for 2 years. He was retired from the Spartanburg Day School as their Facilities Engineer.
He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a charter member of Spartanburg's Foothills Antique and Power Association and a member of the Friends of the Library.
He was survived by his brother, Lee Huneycutt of Albemarle, NC. Also by their 3 daughters: Sharon Lynn Huneycutt Harris and her husband, Stan Harris; Margaret Elaine Huneycutt Harris and her husband, Ronnie Harris; and Melinda Kathryn Huneycutt McMillion and her husband, Mike McMillion all of Spartanburg. Also survived by their 3 grandchildren: Virginia "Jenny" Elaine Harris and her husband USAF Staff Sgt. Kyle Hauser of Elgin, SC, SCANG Staff Sgt. William Luke Harris (Formerly USAF) and his wife Hannah Gilbert Harris and Lee Alexander McMillion all of Spartanburg. Also survived by his 6 great grandchildren: Brett Hauser, Ryan Hauser, Brooke Hauser, Natalie Hauser, Savannah Harris, Will Harris and nieces and nephews: Barbara West Curlee, Brenda West Barrier, Kenneth Ray Bradley, James Robert Bradley, Glenn Gilbert Reese, Jr, John David Reese, Kathryn Elizabeth Reese Britt, William Michael Reese and Alexander James Reese. Lastly survived by a loving friend: Marion McMillian.
Predeceased by his parents and sister Ruth Huneycutt West and her husband Cecil West, sister-in-law Eloise Coggin Reese and nephew Robert West.
His hobbies included traveling, reading, history, antique tractors, farm equipment and antique tools, collector of farm magazines, books and agricultural year books.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 5:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman conducted by Mr. Stan Harris. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home.
