Inman, SC---Loved by many and truly an exceptional man, William Donald Burton, 65, went peacefully home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family, Monday, May 23rd, 2011. Mr. Burton was born in Danville, Va on March 14, 1946, the son of the late John Thomas and Nannie Hooper Burton. He was the husband of Judy Singleton Burton having celebrated 42 years of marriage. Mr. Burton was employed as a coach and teacher at Chapman High School for 11 years and more recently worked in the Executive Office at Inman Mills for 21 years. He was a member of Inman First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Goodwill Sunday School Class. He graduated from Barnwell High School in 1965 where he lettered in five sports during four years there and then graduated from Newberry College where he was a four year letterman for the Newberry College football team, received a B.S. degree and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was a referee and official for the South Carolina High School League and Spartanburg County Recreational League. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Thomas Hooper Burton and Mary K. Burton of Williston, a daughter, Sherry Burton Holt, her husband Michael S. Holt and their children Annabelle Burton Holt and Michael Shea Holt, Jr all of Hartsville and a daughter, Donyelle Burton Wilkins, her husband William Walt Wilkins and their children, Mary Burton Wilkins and William Walter Wilkins IV all of Greenville. The family is at the home at 100 Birdscross Lane, Inman and will receive friends Thursday 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the atrium of Inman First Baptist Church and following the burial in the church social hall. Funeral services will be held at Inman First Baptist. Church at 11:OOam on Thursday, May 26th, conducted by Dr. Paul Moore. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Inman First Baptist Church 14 N. Howard Street Inman, SC 29349 or American Cancer Society 154 Mile Stone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
