Inman, SC---Vernon Haskell Penland, Jr., 71 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Regional Hospice Home. Born in Inman on December 4, 1938 he was the son of the late Grace (Fisher) and Vernon Penland, Sr. He was known as "Hack" to his many friends. He was a generous man who shared his wealth and vast knowledge of sports to anyone who asked. He leaves behind his beloved dog Fran and three very special friends, David Smith, Faye Coley and Ron Fields. Haskell was retired from Hudson International and Mascot Homes. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was a member of the Inman Masonic Lodge #201.
He is survived by six sisters, Miriam Stone, Louise Brown, Betty Ravan, Carolyn Albright and husband Terry, Diane Wyatt and husband Roger and Brenda Cantrell and husband Rick; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Penland wife of deceased brother, Robert Penland and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 2:00PM until 3:00PM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A memorial services will follow at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Gary Byrd, Ron Fields and Lewis Henderson.
