Vernon James Byrd, 83, of 127 Inn View Drive, Inman, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Regional Hospice Home. Vernon was born in Spartanburg County on December 22, 1934, a son of the late Clyde and Leola Poteat Byrd and was the widower of Mildred Phillips Byrd. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his late aunt and uncle, Horace and Dora Poteat. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. He retired from Inman Mills and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. Vernon is survived by a daughter, Vicki James and her husband, Stanley, of Inman; a son, Philip Byrd, of Greenville; two grandsons, Derek James and wife Codie, Justin James and wife Tiffany; and four great grandchildren; Alexis, Natalie, Connor, And Avery.
The family is at his home and will receive friends 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 29th at Seawright Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303
