Troy O. Edwards, 99, a faithful servant of God went to his heavenly home late Thursday in Spartanburg, S C. after a brief illness.
Mr. Edwards was born in Holly Springs, SC on May 1, 1908 and was the son of the late Oscar R. and. Leila T. McCarter Edwards.
He was the widower of Lillian Reid Edwards and was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend to every one he met. He was a respected merchant, farmer, and a faithful member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for thirty-seven years. He served on the Board of Deacons and was the Director of the Training Union and Sunday School Departments for many years. He was a proud World War II Army Veteran and was awarded four Battle Stars while serving in Europe. He was a Charter Member of the Holly Springs Ruritan Club, American Legion Post # 45 member, and served as Director of the Piedmont Rural Water Co. His shining example was an inspiration to countless people and his legacy will continue to live in the hearts of many.
He is survived by two daughters, Reida E. Baines and her husband Larry of Columbia, S. C., Susan Graham and her husband Freddie of Woodruff; and a sister, Dorothy E. Melton of Duncan. There are five grandchildren, Lorrie Baines, Todd Baines and his wife Kristine, Preston Baines, Heidi Godfrey and her husband Rev. Daniel Godfrey and Nikki Pruitt and her husband Chris. He was predeceased by four brothers, T. W., Talmadge, Mack and Manning Edwards and one sister, Vivian Brown.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 3:00 P. M. in Holly Springs Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tim Clark and Rev. Daniel Godfrey. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church, 251 Hannon Rd., Inman, S. C. 29349.The family is at the home of a daughter, Susan Graham, 1565 Old Switzer Rd., Woodruff, S. C. 29388. The family would like to express their appreciation to their friends at Windsor House West for the love and care that they gave to their father.
