Thomas A. "Tom" Fridy, III, 64, of 3551 New Cut Road, Inman died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his home. Tom was born in Palatka, FL September 12, 1949 and was a son of the late Thomas A. Fridy Jr. and Patty Wingo Fridy. He was the husband of Sharon Rouse Fridy of the home. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters; Anna M. Fridy of Taylors, Eva S. Rector of Spartanburg, a sister; Eva Fridy Edwards of Milledgeville, GA; a granddaughter, Isabella Rector and a grandson; Silas Rector.
Among the many achievements Tom made are; playing in the bands at Fairforest High School and Dorman High School; he also played in the Gordon Military Band, Hejaz Shrine Band, Rhinelander's German Band, the original Spartanburg Community Band; and was a member of the South Eastern Shrine Band Association where he served as an officer in different capacities up until the present as he holds the office of Secretary. He received his Business Management Degree from Gardner-Webb University and Post Graduate Architectural Studies at Clemson University. Tom was very active with Spartan Masonic Lodge #70 where he has served as Worshipful Master, Chairman of the Audit Committee, Chaplain, Senior Warden, and Charity Committee Chairman as well as a member of the Hejaz Shrine. He was a member of Scottish Rite (32nd Degree), a member of York Rite, and a member of Allied Masonic Degrees where he had served as Sovereign Master.
Tom was confirmed at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and was a past member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church where he had served as a Vestry member, a Junior Warden, Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer. Since 2000, he has been a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg.
Tom was a founding member of Spartanburg's "Keep America Beautiful" Committee, served as a trustee on The Spartanburg Repertory Company board, had performed with The Spartanburg Repertory Company's production of "Anything Cole: A Cole Porter Concert" and "Fiddler on the Roof".
For the past several years Tom worked as an engineer consultant, primarily in the soil and concrete industry. In his earlier years, Tom was very proud to have been one of the first sixteen original employees of Spartanburg County Emergency Medical Services. Tom has served his community graciously throughout his life in different civic organizations, school improvement organizations, and neighborhood associations.
The family is at the home and will receive friends 7:00 until 8:30pm Friday, December 13, 2013 at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, December 14, 2013 at The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg conducted by Rev. Stephen Y. McGehee. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Shiloh Memorial Cemetery in Inman. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
