Thomas Walker Holden

February 5, 1919 — July 21, 2008

Thomas Walker Holden, husband of Ella Neil Scott Holden, of 85 E. Main St., left this earthly life to be with his Lord on Monday evening July 21, 2008
after a long and courageous battle with several illnesses. Mr. Holden was born near Inman on February 5, 1919 to the late John Richard and Mae Leona Reynolds Holden. He grew up in the Boiling Springs, S. C. area where he started his career with Holden's Radio Shop in the 1940's. He moved his radio repair business to Inman, where he later opened Holden's Home and Auto Store on Main Street. In 1961 he changed his focus to boating and opened Holden's Marine Center in Spartanburg, which he ran until he retired. He was a member of the Inman First Baptist Church for nearly 60 years and was in the Winsome Sunday School Class. The class is to serve as Honorary Escort at the services.
Mr. Holden and his loving and devoted wife, Ella Neil, were married for 65 years. He is survived by four children: Tom Holden, Jr. and his wife Dottie, Mildred Neil (Mickey) Higgins and her husband Rick, Richard Holden and his wife Rene, and David Holden. He was also blessed with grandchildren: Angela (Gaffney) Houston and her husband Kevin, Jamie Holden Pearson and her husband Charles Todd, Chris Holden, Lee Holden, Nicholas Holden, step grandson Tim Holden and his wife Dana, and greatgrandchildren Thomas, Reagan, and Jackson Pearson, and step great-grandsons Zack and Chase Houston.
He is also survived by a brother Leonard Holden and wife Helen, a sister Doris Giles, and sisters-in-law Kathryn Holden and Mary Lanford Holden. He was predeceased by brothers Royce, Robert and Hubert Holden, a brother-inlaw, Madison Giles, and sister-in-law Maude Holden. He also considered as his own his wife's sisters Era Riser and her husband Glenn, Naomi Fain and her husband Guy, deceased brothers-in-law, Clifford and Gibson, and deceased sister-in-law Jean. He also shared the joy of having many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Thursday, July 24th from 2:00 to 3:30 P. M. in the Atrium area of the Inman First Baptist Church. followed by the funeral services at 3:30 P.M. in the sanctuary conducted by Dr. Paul Moore, and Chaplain (Capt.) Charles Pearson. The interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews: Frank Holden, Keith Holden, Kenneth Giles, and Glenn Riser, Jr. and grandsons Chris Holden, and Tim Holden. In lieu of flowers donations be made to the Building Fund of Inman First Baptist Church, 14 N. Howard St., Inman, S. C. 29349
The family would like to give special thanks to Regional Hospice and the caregivers from" Visiting Angels for the care they provided. The family is at the home.
