Inman, SC---Talmadge Hobert Metcalf, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Lake Emory Post Acute Care in Inman, SC.
Born in Inman, SC on February 27, 1927, a son of the late William Hobert Metcalf and Marie (Johnson) Metcalf and was the loving husband of the late Margaret (Raines) Metcalf having celebrated 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
Mr. Metcalf was employed with McLean Trucking Company for 37 years with a perfect driving record, of which he was very proud of. He was a lifelong and faithful member of Holston Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Men of Hope Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his daughter, Maureen King and her husband Don of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law, Beth Metcalf of Inman, SC; Six grandchildren, Keilah Nettles of Greer, SC, Micah Metcalf of Columbus, MS, Jennifer Tousey of Frederick, MD, P.J. Metcalf of Duncan, SC, Hannah Metcalf of Wellford, SC and Phillip King of Spartanburg, SC, along with eight great grandchildren. From his family of seven siblings, he is survived by one sister, Edith Boyter of Lyman, SC.
In addition to his parents, wife and siblings, he was also predeceased by three sons, Phillip, Julian and Neal Metcalf.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home with Dr. Reggie Parker officiating. Serving as Honorary Escorts will be the Men of Hope Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman, SC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Holston Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 Holston Creek Church Road, Inman, SC 29349.
Before his health declined, Talmadge enjoyed his church, gardening, yard work, and helping others. He especially enjoyed Thursday nights at the Flounder Fish Camp with his grandson, Phillip. An online guest register is available at www.seawright-funeralhome.com.
