Sylvia Ballenger, 80, of 140 Honda Street Inman, SC, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Greenville County on November 12, 1937, she was a daughter of the late James Jennings Cook and Vera Poteat Cook and was the wife of Horace David Ballenger, Sr. having celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Mrs. Ballenger was a member of Inman First Baptist Church where she served in the Anna/Caring Sunday School Class. She retired from Spartanburg Region Medical Center where she worked as a lab technician. After her retirement she went to work at Inman Family Practice.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Austin (Sam), of Lexington, SC; daughter-in-law, Melinda Ballenger of Inman, SC; two sisters, Ann Cook of Inman, SC and Susan Smart (Bob) of Chesnee, SC; one brother, James Cook (Alice) of Inman, SC; four grandchildren, April Taylor (Stephen), Amanda Rivenbark (Matt), Jordan Ballenger and Sarah Ballenger and five great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews and her fur babies, Felix and Louie.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by one son, Horace David "Davey" Ballenger, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Inman First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Moore officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church atrium. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
