Spartanburg , SC---Mr. Smiley Gilbert, 80, of 8362 Cedar Lane Spartanburg died Thursday, May 19th, 2011 at Regional Hospice Home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Spartanburg on December 31, 1930, the son of the late Robert and Oceolia Adams Gilbert. He was a carpenter and a former cotton mill employee. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Lone Oak Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Seay and her husband Raymond of Chesnee, three sons, Randy Gilbert and wife Janis of Campobello, Ronnie Gilbert and wife Myra of Chesnee, Kenny Gilbert and wife Patty of Mill Spring, NC; three brothers, John Gilbert of Florida, Paul Gilbert of Dallas, NC, and Raymond Gilbert of Chesnee. He had ten grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. The family is at the home and will receive friends Friday 7-9:00pm at Seawright Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Gateway Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 21st, conducted by Rev. Ray Stewart and Rev. Tom Sawyer and Rev. Tim Ramsey. Burial will follow in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, S.C. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Carolina Dialysis and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for the care they have shown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home 686 Jeff Davis Drive Spartanburg, SC 29303.
