Sara McMillin Trout, 100, of Inman passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Sara was born in New Prospect on September 19, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Clifton and Sallie Carson McMillin and the wife of the late Rule Cannon Trout for 64 years. She was the last living child of 9 siblings born to Jesse and Sallie.
Sara graduated from New Prospect High School in 1941 and Western Carolina University in 1945 with a BA degree in Education. She taught school in Biltmore, N.C. and Mill Springs, N.C. She also taught third grade at O.P. Earle Elementary School in Landrum for 19 years. She retired from District One Schools in 1989. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living District One employee.
Sara was an active member of Inman First Baptist Church for 68 years. She loved her church, serving in the Sunday School nursery for 26 years. She also served the homebound church members for several years and was a member of the Anna- Caring Sunday School Class. She was also the oldest member of Inman First Baptist Church.
She is survived by 4 children: Steve Trout, Alice Trout Johnson (Mack), Sam Trout (Karen), and Phil Trout (Sue). She is survived by 6 grandchildren: Dr. Jeff Johnson (Lana), Rebecca Crank (David), Lauren Cox (Kevin), Brady Trout, Patrick Brandt (Jamie), and Daniel Brandt. She is survived by 6 great-grandchildren: Caleb Crank, Joshua Crank, Emory Johnson, Selah Crank, Sadie Kate Cox, and Henry Brandt.
Sara enjoyed the bluebirds in her bluebird box every year and watching Duke basketball, Clemson football, and Atlanta Braves baseball. She also loved to cook for her family. Her specialty was crockpot macaroni and cheese. She had a love for reading and enjoyed having company visit her at her home. Her family was her joy, and she celebrated every time one of them made a commitment to follow Christ. But her greatest love was for her Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held at Inman First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025, with Dr. Jeff Johnson, Dr. Jeremiah Childers, and Dr. Paul Moore officiating. Family will be available in the Atrium before the service from 1:00pm to 1:45pm. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman. Pallbearers are Harry McMillian, Danny McDowell, Joey McMillin, Jeff Guest, Tommy Bird, and Cecil Bradley.
