Ruth Evelyn Perkins, 78, a resident of Presbyterian Community died in her sleep in
Clinton, SC at 5:30am, Wednesday, January 27, 2010. A Memorial Service in celebration
Of her life will be held in the Chapel at Presbyterian Community of Clinton, SC on Tuesday, February 2nd at 2 pm. A brief graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, SC on Wednesday, February 3rd at 11:00am. The Rev Dr Jeri Parris Perkins will officiate at both services. Seawright Funeral Home will manage Evelyn's arrangements. Memorials, in lieu of flowers should be made to "Presbyterian Communities: The Julia Kennedy Scholarship Fund", 801 Musgrove Street, Clinton, SC, 29325.
Evelyn was born in Spartanburg County on August 12, 1931 to Emma Lois Durham Thompson and William Talley Thompson. Her siblings are Emma Francis, Catherine Lurlean, Tally Rush, Lee Roy, David Lewis, Martha Ann, Donald Ray, Linda Maverine, Hellon Maxine and Wanda Kay. Tally Rush, Lee Roy and David Lewis pre-deceased her.
Evelyn married Harry Lee Perkins on June 8, 1956 in Augusta, Ga. Children include Gregory, Douglas, Phillip, Deborah and Mary. Harry Lee, Douglas and Mary predeceased her. There are Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren too numerous to name.
Evelyn's life was lived in service to God, her family and the communities in which she grew roots: Spartanburg, SC; Augusta, GA; Inman, SC and Clinton, SC. She was a member of Inman Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary of Inman, was a supporter of the Inman Volunteer Fire Department, the Gideon's International and Hospice of Laurens County. She had retired from her profession as a florist although she never retired from her love of flowers, living and dried. She loved and cared deeply for family and friends and she spoke her mind freely and to great effect.
Evelyn has reunited with God and with family; she was ready and waiting to go home. Praise be to God for her life, her love, her mothering and her peaceful departure.
