Ruth Hightower Blackwell 97, of Inman SC passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum. A native of Spartanburg County, Ruth was the daughter of Ernest E. and Myrtle Sudduth Hightower. She was the wife of the late Guy E. Blackwell. They were married sixty-five years.
Ruth was a member of Inman First Baptist Church. She taught in the Pre-school Sunday School Department for over sixty years and was a former choir member. She opened and operated the first florist shop in Inman. Ruth retired from District One Schools where she served as a teacher for the veteran's school.
Survivors are: daughter Anne B. Templeman of the home; grandson Scott Templeman and wife Beverly of Misawa, Japan; granddaughter Tanya and husband David Yeager and great grandson Shane Yeager of Gloucester, Virginia; and sister-in-laws Bernice Hightower of Holly Springs, Doris Johnson of Holston
Creek, and Jean Dorman of Columbia. Ruth is predeceased by Brothers Joe, Jack, Ernest Jr, and Lewis Hightower, and sisters Nelle H Morrow and Patsy H Jackson. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, November 30, 2013 in the Seawright Funeral Chapel conducted by Dr Paul Moore and Rev Jeremiah Childers. The family is at her home and will receive friends one hour before the service at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Inman First Baptist Church Building Fund, 14 North Howard Street, Inman South Carolina, 29349. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
