Rev. Dr. Russell D. Goodwin left this earth to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
He was born in Yonkers, NY on February 4, 1933. He spent his early childhood in Hudson Falls and his teen years in Staten Island, NY. He graduated from Zion Bible Institute and followed in the footsteps of his parents when he began his Assembly of God ministry. In 1967 he joined the United Methodist Church where he continued in full time ministry until retiring in 1995. During this time he also pursued rigorous academic goals which culminated in his doctoral degree in theological studies from Drew University. Upon retirement he worked tirelessly as an organizational consultant for churches around the country and then committed efforts to leading Sunday School worship at the Gramling United Methodist Church. He was well read, had a quick wit, loved to travel and enjoyed a good discussion. He also embraced new ideas and experienced joy in learning. He is survived by his devoted wife Maria, his sister and brother-in-law Miriam and Daniel Kwasnaza, and four children: David Goodwin, Debra McGinness, Dean Goodwin and Jason Magnuson. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Nathaniel, Andrew, Taylor and Kelsey and one great-granddaughter, Adelaide. His passing represents a deep loss to his family and he will forever be held in their hearts. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, May 2, 2015 at Gramling United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Rebecca Wilkins and Rev. Don Hope. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gramling United Methodist Church, PO Box 58, Gramling , SC 29348 or the Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.
