Robert (RL) Jones

It is with great sadness we share the news that Robert (RL) Jones Sr. 75 of Holly Springs, SC left this world on Aug. 12, 2026.

Robby was born and raised in the Lyman/Greer SC area. He started work in civil engineering but left it to take over Jones Transfer and Storage in Greer when his father, Bob Jones retired in 1979. Later he added boat moving to and from Charleston to the upstate. In the 1980’s his hobby of collecting old motorcycles and parts led to a new career path. He opened RL’s Classic Motorcycles where he restored and sold vintage motorcycles and memorabilia. He joined the Antique Motorcycle Association and found a community he embraced wholeheartedly. Traveling across the country to the meets every summer and fall with his family was one of his greatest joys.

He spent his last working years doing what he loved. His restorations and work are featured in magazines, private collections and museums across the US and Japan. Rob ( known by many as RL) never met a stranger and loved talking and making friends with people from all walks of life. He will be remembered for his big smile and laughter by his friends and those who encountered him along the way. He loved life and had a wicked dry sense of humor. He leaves behind his beloved son Graham Jones of Holly Springs who was his pride and joy and with whom he shared a bond of all things mechanical that could be ridden on 2 wheels.

Along with Graham, he leaves a sister, MaLinda Chase, brother in law Mogens Larson both of Denmark and his former wife, Joyce Jones of Lyman SC. Robby was predeceased by his mother and father, Bob and Nita Jones of Isle of Palms,SC and beloved son, Bobby Jones Jr. of the home.

Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2026 from 2:00 PM until 3:15 PM with a celebration of life service at 3:15 PM at Seawright Funeral Home, Inman, S.C.
