Mr. Robert Eugene Johnson, 77, of Inman passed away Monday, December 20th, 2010 at his home after a long illness. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, T. Sidney and Maud Atkinson Johnson who had lived in Pineville, NC. He was raised by his paternal grandparents Thomas Jefferson and Mary Wilson Johnson after the death of his mother. Bob attended Pineville Elementary School and East Mecklenburg High School. He was in the US Marine Corp during the Korean conflict and was discharged as a Sgt. Most his working years were in the trucking industry. Bob was married to Dorothy Ross Johnson of the home, for 58 years and is also survived by four children, Bob Jr., of Mt. Airy, NC, Todd Alan (Tammy) of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Kevin S. of Las Vegas, NY and Karen Lord (Jim) of Anderson, SC, a brother, Thomas S. Johnson, Jr. (Anne) of Oak Island, NC, and five grandchildren, Melissa Boyle (Kevin) of China Grove, NC, Joshua Johnson of Kernersville, NC, Andrew Johnson (Paige) of Winston Salem, NC, Dylan and Blake Johnson of Charlotte, NC, and 4 great grandchildren.
After retiring, the family moved to Oak Island, NC where Bob was the past Commander of VFW Post 10226, Oak Island and a member of the American Legion, Oak Island, and the Moose Lodge of Oak Island. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 23 at 12:00 noon at Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery, 269 Flinthill Road, Fort Mill, SC conducted by Rev. Joe Denson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605 or to a charity of one's choice.
