Robert Houghton, Sr. age 89 passed away at 2:00 am Saturday, July 13th, after an extended illness.
He was born November 26, 1923, a son of the late Raymond Collins Houghton and Mildred Swan Houghton.
He was the widower of Dorothy Blemline Heffner Houghton who passed away July 16, 2008 after 61 years of marriage. He was a baptist and served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He taught elementary school before retiring.
He is survived by four daughters; Sharon Ficek and husband Don of Michigan, Susan Proctor and husband Marlow of Maryland, Beth Ann Houghton-Steeb of Texas, Betsy Hawkins and husband Bill of Woodruff; six sons; Ronald Houghton and wife Patty of Maryland, Timothy Houghton and wife Joy of Tennessee, Raymond Houghton of Virginia, David Houghton and wife Vicki of Florida, Wayne Houghton and wife Sharon of Tennesee, Robert "Bob" Houghton and wife Joanne of Inman; one brother, Ray Houghton and wife Wanda of Florida; one sister, Rose VanNoy of Pennsylvania; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings; Richard, Calvin, and Lawrence Houghton.
The family is at the home of Bob and Joanne Houghton, at 1708 Compton Bridge Road, Inman and will receive friends Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Seawright Funeral Home. Military Honors will follow the service at the funeral home. Mr. Houghton will be entombed in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ocala, Florida on Wednesday afternoon.
