Robert Arthur "Artie" Allen, 70, of 280 Florence Street, Spartanburg, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Artie was born in Gaffney on June 14, 1947, a son of Anna Elizabeth "Lib" (Queen) Allen, of Gaffney, and the late George Herbert Allen. He was the husband of Glenda Sue "Susie" (Powell) Allen. Artie graduated from Gaffney High School then Spartanburg Technical College where he received his degree in HVAC and worked at Stouffer's Foods. He was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for North Spartanburg Area Fire Department for over 25 years and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years and had served as a deacon. In addition to his wife and mother, Artie is survived by a daughter; Melinda Allen Moore (John) of Spartanburg, a brother; John Allen of Gaffney, a sister; Brenda Gunnells of Gaffney, his grandchildren; Toni, Darla, and DJ Moore, a special grandson; Kyle Kakuske, special niece and nephews; Lynne Pawlak of Arkansas, Scott Cromer of Spartanburg, John Allen, Jr of Gaffney, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was also predeceased by a brother, Tommy Allen. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Friday 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the felllowship hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A celebration of his life service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 26th, with Rev. Robert Gouge and Rev. Monty King officiating. Interment will be private following the service.
