Mr. Robert Brady Allen, 85, "our gentle giant", of 26 2nd Street, Inman died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He leaves with us his love for the Lord, love of music, a kind and sweet spirit and his unconditional love for his family.
Mr. Allen was born in Gaffney, SC on October 20, 1923, the son of the late Ralph Brady and Ethel (Simpson) Allen.
He was the husband of Emma (Gregory) Allen, retired from Inman Mills after over 50 years service, was a member of Harvest Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 daughters: Nancy Allen Gaines McCarter and husband Harry James of Inman, Debra Allen Greene Jackson and husband Tony of Inman, 3 sisters: Mary Casey of Atlanta, GA, Martha Manning of Reidville, Patricia Coates of Inman, 1 brother: Eddie Allen of Cordova, TN, 4 grandchildren: Samuel Russell Gaines, II of Moore, Robert Nelson Bellamy of Inman, Joshua Allen Greene of Inman, Sonya Gaines Malone of Inman, 4 great-grandchildren: Mary Maxwell Chambers, Samuel Russell Gaines, III , Hampton Gaines Malone and Baby Bellamy, due in May.
The family is at the home of his daughter Nancy, 823 Indian Trail Run, Inman and will receive friends Thursday 4-6 PM at Seawright Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Harvest Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC, at 11 :00 AM on Friday, November 28th, with Rev. Terry McMillian officiating.
Mausoleum Encryptment will be Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC.
Memorial contributions may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive Spartanburg, SC 29303.
