Richard John Sabo, 82, of Inman, South Carolina went to be with the Lord on November 6, 2023, peacefully at his home. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 18, 1940, he was the son of Fredrick Steven Sabo and Beatrice Mildred Lowrey Sabo.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patrica Anne Sabo, his children Richard Sabo (Savannah) of Inman, SC and Lisa Mullis (George) of Greer, SC; beloved grandchildren, Katlyn Dill (Brett), Samantha Gaito (Smith), Andrea Mullis, Richard Sabo and George-Anna Mullis; sisters Lyda Craig, Charlotte Michael and Becky Connor, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jerry Sabo and Tony Sabo, and sister Denise Cooksey.
Richard was born in Atlanta Georgia where he worked at an early age to support his family. Richard entered the Army at the age of eighteen rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel attached to the 170th Military Police Battalion of the Third Army. Richard attended the Army’s National War College, and Command and General Staff College during his military career. After retirement from the Army, Richard applied the skills he learned becoming corporate Safety Director for Vulcan Materials, then Plant Manager of Vulcan Materials Lyman Plant. Richard would later open a cattle auction, then sell Real Estate for Pima Reality in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Richard was a devoted husband and father, always putting family first. Richard loved sports, fishing and hunting. Richard loved animals, raising horses and cattle during his lifetime. Richard had a passion for helping people and a heart for service to others.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held Thursday, November 9, at 11:00 AM at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman, South Carolina. A visitation will be held following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/
