Tryon, NC---Mr. Robert Gentry "R.G." McCarter, 79, of 70 Oak St, Tryon, NC passed away Sunday, March 21st, 2010 at White Oak Manor in Tryon.

Mr. McCarter was born in Inman, SC on May 10, 1930, the son of the late Ernest Gentry and Leola Octavia (Hammett) McCarter and was the widower of Barbara (Henderson) McCarter.
He is survived by 1 daughter Lynn Stepp, 1 son: Robert Anthony McCarter, 5 brothers: Dean, Larry, Ray, Harry James, and Wilburn McCarter all of Inman, 1 sister: Mildred Wofford of Wellford, 3 grandchildren: Ethan and Ryan Stepp, Misty Flatford, 2 great-grandchildren: Samantha and Brent Flatford. He was predeceased by a sister: Margie Burnette and a grandson: Steven McCarter.
Mr. McCarter worked as a peach farmer and a mechanic, was a member of Holston Creek Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Army in WW II.

The family is at the home of his daughter, 415 Sunburst Lane, Inman and will receive friends Wednesday 10:00AM - 11:OOAM at Seawright Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Seawright Funeral Chapel, Inman, SC, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 24th, with Rev. Reggie Parker and Rev Donnan Lawson officiating.

Mausoleum Encryptment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Research, 114 E. Earle St., Anderson, SC 29621-5602 or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
