Ray Charles Rogers

"Today a hero has fallen, Like so many who have gone before, He has landed on the shores of Heaven, There to rest and fight no more".

Ray C. Rogers, Sr., 98 of 24 Prospect St. passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Born in Inman, SC on November 22, 1915, he was the son of the late David Eugene and Florence (Hutcherson) Rogers. He was the widower of the late Mrs. Annie Mae (Tucker) Rogers with whom he had been married for over 68 years. Mr. Rogers was a member of Inman First Baptist Church and was a retired brick mason. Ray was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II with the 4th Infantry Ivy League Division. He was a part of the D-Day invasion and landed at Utah Beach with Teddy Roosevelt, Jr as his commanding officer on June 6, 1944. He was a member of the Inman American Legion Post 45, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9539, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3, and The Military Order of the Purple Heart , Chapter 1781 SC.

He is survived by a son, Ray C. Rogers, Jr. and his wife Donna of Inman, two daughters, Martha Cooper and her husband Gene also of Inman, Christi Haynes of the home and one sister, Miss Lucy Rogers also of Inman. There are five grandchildren, Lisa Satterfield, Rod Rogers and his wife Miranda, Angie Comer and her husband Kerry, Jeremy Cooper and his wife Missy and Kennedy Haynes seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers, five sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Inman First Baptist Church at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 with Dr. Paul Moore and Rev. Al Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the atrium of the Inman First Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1781 SC. Honorary Escorts will be the American Legion Post #45, V.F.W. Post 9539 and the D.A.V. Chapter 3. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Full Military Rites performed by the Rutherfordton County Honor Guard.
