Ralph Harold Sellars, 86, went home to be with The Lord on December 8, 2012. He will be remembered for his love of Christ and the love he showed his family. Born on September 30, 1926, Mr. Sellars was the son of the late James Wyatt Sellars and Janie Bates Sellars. Raised in Spartanburg, he spent his childhood days on the family farm with ten brothers and sisters until he joined the Navy at age 18. He served in active combat during World War II. Shortly after his return he married Annie Mary Edwards Sellars, his wife of 65 years. Together they raised two sons. Mr. Sellars retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Not one to sit still, he became the business owner of Harold Sellars Painting Contractors. He enjoyed going to church, Saturday morning breakfast with his son and grandson, spending time with his wife, and making his great-grandchildren laugh. He is survived by his wife, Annie Mary Edwards Sellars; his son, Kenneth Harold Sellars and his wife Judy Lewis Sellars; his grandson, Jeffrey Kenneth Sellars and his wife Sheila; his granddaughter, Dr. Jill Sellars Morris and her husband Chris; four greatgrandchildren, Kendall, Savannah, Gracen, and Reagan; and a sister, Ruth Sellars Morgan of Montgomery, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son Jerry Horace Sellars, as well as nine siblings. Mr. Sellars was of the Baptist faith and an active member of Covenant Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School class. He was a former trustee of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and chairman of the deacons. He was a Mason and a Shriner. A funeral service will be held on December 13, at 11:00 AM at Covenant Baptist Church officiated by Reverends Gary Hensley and Monty King. Burial will be at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery following the service, where the family will greet friends.
