Purnie Mae Blackwell Raney

Purnie Mae Blackwell Raney, 87, of 54 Gosnell Ave. died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born on June 21, 1920 in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Grady Blackwell and Linnie Stockton Blackwell Wolf. She was retired from the Admitting Office of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after twenty years of service and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Inman Mills Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years, a member of the Girl Scouts of the Piedmont for 44 years and a troop Leader of Inman Mills Troop 88 for 44 years.

She was the widow, after 62 years of marriage, of the late James Morris Raney. She is survived by her three sons, Daniel Raney and Sam Raney of Inman, and Tim Raney of the home, two daughters, Debbie Henderson and her husband Tommy of Landrum, Donna Brown of Inman, two brothers, Jim Blackwell of Shelby, NC , Everett Blackwell of Green Creek, NC; one sister Alja Price Green of Shelby, NC; and six Grandchildren, Jeremy Raney and his wife Crystal of Campobello, Jeanna Raney Beasley and her husband J J of lnman, Erin Henderson Millwood and her husband Joey of Landrum, Joshua Henderson of Landrum, Ashley Brown Dill and her husband Chris of Boiling Springs, S. C. , and Lindsey Brown of Inman, two Great Grandchildren, Bryce Kelson Beasley of Inman, Eliza Cait Millwood of Landrum and a Great granddaughter to be born in July.

She was predeceased by her brother, Major Blackwell, sister, Corine Bolick, son-in -law, David Brown and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Kelly Raney, and a step-grandson, Todd Harvey.
The family will receive friends this evening, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 7 to 9:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 4:00 PM at Inman Mills Baptist Church conducted Revs. Jack Hames and Travis Smith. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman.

The family requests that all current and former members of the Inman Mills Brownie Scout Troop 88 and Girls Scouts of the Piedmont Area Council to serve as Honorary Escort.
