Peggy Stone Ballenger of Inman, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the age of 90.

She was the 9th child, born to William Pinckney and Frances Penola "Nonie" McMillin Stone on the family farm in Inman, SC.

She was the widow of Thomas Hayes Ballenger, whom predeceased her in the fall of 1982.

Surviving are her five daughters; Lucy B. McDaniel (David) of Mt. Pleasant, Margaret B. Kellum (Lynn) of Comer, Ga, Kathy B. Williams (Morris) of Inman, Lynne B. Pryor (Barry) of Landrum and Nancy Ballenger of Moore.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Rebecca Williams Smart (Matt), Michael Thomas McDaniel, Tanner Ballenger Williams (Nikki), Susan Kellum-Martin (Brian), John Oliver McDaniel, Joel Thomas Kellum (Ashten), Phillip Hayes Pryor (Sarajane), William Griffin Pryor and fiancee' Georgia and Laura Frances Pryor; nine great grandchildren, Colton, Addison and Walker Smart, Aiden, Carter and Camden Williams, Wrilon Martin, Alden Kellum and Hudson Pryor; her brother, Jack Stone of Landrum and a special niece, Barbara Flowers of Raleigh, NC.

She was predeceased by seven siblings, Roy, Jenelle, Faye, J.B., William, Ada Belle, and Rachel.

Peggy was a faithful member of Inman First Baptist Church, founding member of the Peach Blossom Garden Club and was a member of the Spartanburg County "Friends of the Library".  She retired as the Clerk for the City of Inman and was Inman's first Librarian in the 1960's. She was passionate about Inman, the surrounding towns and loved her family, church, traveling and working in her yard. Peggy graduated from Gramling High School, Class of '49 and loved reminiscing with her "Gramling Girls" and their reunions. She was affectionately known to her grands as "Grandma Peggy".

Our sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Spartanburg Regional during the last few weeks. And most of all, to her friends and family whom she had grown to love in the Rosecrest community. Thank you all for the love and compassion that was shown to mom.

Visitation will be held at Inman First Baptist Church on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 1:00 - 2:45 PM with services following at 3:00 PM with Dr. Paul Moore officiating.  

The burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The families will be at their respective homes.
