Mrs. Lois Pauline Hammett

Mrs. Lois Pauline Blackwell Hammett, 99, of 59 Blackstock Road but formerly of 6670 New Cut Road went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 27th, 2011. Born in Inman, SC on July 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Broadus and Fannie (Lawrence) Blackwell and was formerly married to the late J.C. Hammett. She graduated from Gramling High School as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Limestone College for two years. She retired from at Lyman Printing and Finishing where she worked as a cost accountant. After that she worked for Bi-Lo in Inman as a greeter and during her stay at Camp Care in Inman, she was known as the official greeter. Mrs. Hammett was a member of Holston Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and also served in the Dorcas Co-workers Sunday School Class and the Keen Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris Johnson of Inman and Jean Dorman of Columbia, two sister-in-laws, Ruth Blackwell and Virgie Blackwell, three grandchildren, Stacy Phiffer of Lexington, Debbie Truesdale of Charlotte and Rusty Albert of Blythewood along with three great grandchildren, Maggie Albert, Chelsea Albert and Bennett Phiffer and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jane Hammett Albert Sauls, three brothers, Barney Blackwell, Guy Blackwell and Ray Blackwell and two sisters, Marjorie Holden and Hantho Hill.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 1-2 PM at Holston Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with Dr. Reggie Parker and Rev. Donnan Lawson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews and honorary escorts will be her nieces. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holston Creek Baptist Church Building Fund 311 Holston Creek Church Rd Inman, SC 29349. The family will be at the home of her sister, Doris Johnson, 6570 New Cut Road, Inman. An online guest register is available at www.seawright-funeralhome.com.
