Pete was born June 16th, 1939 in New York, NY to Paul Agnew Synnott and Alice McLoughlin Synnott. He is survived by three daughters: Ashley Pollard Barron and her spouse Andres Barron, their children Jeremy Barron, Antonio Barron, Eva Barron and Juan Pablo Barron. Leslie Synnott, her fiancé Keith Sarratt, and her children Terry Luis Juarez and Jocelyn Juarez. Elizabeth Arana and her daughter Ilsa Arana of Los Angeles, CA. Pete is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Issac Barron and Silvia Barron, and two sisters: Joan Ardrey of Greenwich, CT and Sister Audrey Synnott of Rochester, NY.
Pete attended Canterbury School in New Milford, CT where he was well-liked and established lifelong bonds with his classmates. He was active in sports, particularly football, which remained a passion for his entire life. Pete went on to receive a Bachelors of Arts degree in English from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH graduating in the infamous class of 1961. He was lovingly known as "Snot". The Dartmouth class of 1961 was the basis for the "Animal House" movie. His years at Dartmouth and the friendships he created there occupied an immense space in his heart for all of his days. After college Pete served as an officer in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged and was extremely proud of his service to his country. He was also very proud of his Scotch-Irish heritage and, on any given St. Paddy's Day, could be found drinking a green beer, singing along to "Danny Boy", and dancing an Irish jig in an Irish pub.
Pete enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry, working for such companies as Fireman's Fund Insurance, Reliance, and State Farm. While teaching at the University of Richmond, Pete shared his insurance underwriting expertise with other insurance professionals. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Insurance for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Rounding out his impressive career he served as Executive Vice President of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) in Malvern, PA.
In 2001 Pete relocated from Philadelphia to South Carolina to spend his retirement enjoying the company of his daughters and grandchildren. Pete especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and was a huge motivator for them. Perhaps watching his grandchildren reminded him of his days playing fullback for Canterbury School.
His devout Catholic faith helped him maintain a positive outlook even in the face of his seventeen year-long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He faced his declining health with a permanent smile and an unwavering love for life, earning his nickname of "Mr. Fine" because, when asked how he was doing, his answer was always, "I'm fine." Pete was loved and adored by all who knew him, and will be profoundly missed.
