Paul Gibson Mathis, 91, of 485 Patterson Road, Campobello, SC, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his residence.
Paul was born in Gramling, SC on January 15, 1922, a son of the late Lettie (Roddy) Mathis and George G Mathis, Sr. He was the husband of Dorothy Seay Mathis and was first married to the late Mildred Mahaffey Mathis He retired from District One Schools and was formerly employed at Spartanburg Water Works and Spartanburg County and was a member of Holston Creek Baptist Church. Mr Mathis served in the U.S. Army in WW II. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by a daughter, Wilma Davis, of Clover, SC; a son, Roger Mathis, of Campobello; a step daughter, Vicki Boyter, of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Margie Tucker, of Spartanburg; Lorene Phillips, of Inman, 7 grandchildren, Cindy Trafoya, Michael Davis, Chris Davis, Elisa Davis, Alan Mathis, Laura Mathis, Melanie Weaver and 6 great grandchildren. The family is at the home of his son Roger, 15611 Asheville Highway, Campobello and will receive friends Friday 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, SC, with Dr Reggie Parker and Rev Donnan Lawson officiating. Burial will be with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holston Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 Holston Creek Church Rd, Inman, SC 29349.
