Patricia Anne Sabo, 81, of Inman, SC went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2024, passing away peacefully at her home.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 30, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Ada Lou Brown Wilkins and Robert Lee Wilkins.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard John Sabo and her sister Elaine Wilkins Callicotte.
She is survived by her children, Richard Sabo (Savannah) of Inman, SC and Lisa Mullis (George) of Greer, SC; beloved grandchildren, Katlyn Dill (Brett), Samantha Gaito (Smith), Andrea Mullis, Richard James Sabo and George-Anna Mullis.
Patricia graduated from Roosevelt High School in Atlanta, GA and then worked for the Atlanta Board of Education for several years before leaving to become a full-time homemaker and mother.
Being of Cherokee descent, she had a passion for advocating for Native American causes, including working with her husband to organize and send two trailers of food and clothing donations to the people on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She was also a founding member and Executive Director of the Piedmont Association of Native Americans, supporting Native American causes in the State of South Carolina.
In recognition of her work, Patricia was named a recipient of the WYFF Jefferson Award in 1989, awarded to “ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition”. This award described her perfectly, as she was a servant leader who always put others first and was devoted to her family, her animals and the Lord, whom she loved with all her heart.
The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for their loving care, support, friendship and devotion to Patricia and her family during her final months. Special thanks to Teja, Melanie, Barbara, Krystal, Christie, Rebecca, Norman and Sherry.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 31, at 11:00 AM at Inman First Baptist Church in Inman, South Carolina. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Creekside Farm and Equine Rescue or Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary.
