Patricia Allen Coates
Mrs. Patricia Allen Coates, 77, of 2995 Compton Bridge Rd, Campobello, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 26th, 2014. Mrs. Coates was a caring, compassionate, and tender-hearted woman, devoted to her family, friends, and church. She leaves with us her love for the Lord, devotion of family, and joy of worshipping and praising Jesus in singing hymns. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Alvin Coates, a faithful member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church for over fifty years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, WMU director, and a member of the choir. She was formerly employed in several retail sales positions, including Meyers-Arnold and Uptons. After retirement her life was devoted to the care and adoration of her husband and grandchildren. She treasured her time spent with them, especially as they gathered for Sunday dinners after church. She was born in Gaffney, SC on September 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Ralph Brady and Ethel Simpson Allen. Those in heaven to greet her are a daughter, Karen Coates Sanford; daughter-in-law, Sherry Smith Coates; two sisters: Elizabeth Brannon and Mary Casey; and two brothers: Harold and Robert Allen. Left to cherish fond memories, in addition to her beloved husband of almost 59 years are: two sons: Tim (Sheila) Coates and Roger Coates; daughter: Sandra (Tom) Carroll; a brother: Eddie (Carolyn) Allen of Cordova, TN; and a sister: Martha (Glenn) Manning of Reidville; nine grandchildren: Heather Sanford; Matthew, Zach, Jacob, Hannah, and Sarah Carroll; Benjamin Timothy Coates II; Steven Smith, Tosha Smith Huggins; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Irene (Gene) Reid and Ruth (Ed) Bell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM on Friday, March 28, at Walnut Hill Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Service, at 2:30 PM, with ministers Revs. Gary Hensley and Ansel Norris. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon Missions Offerings. Gratitude is expressed to the kind and loving care given by area workers of Spartanburg Regional Hospice.
