Gwendolyn Olivia Dacus Batson, 89, formerly of 25 Ebenezer Church Road, Traverlers Rest, South Carolina, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Rosecrest Retirement Community in Inman, South Carolina. Olivia was born in Dacusville, South Carolina, on March 1, 1928, a daughter of the late Prue Milton Dacus, Sr. and Vera Friddle Dacus. She was married to the late Marion Elliott Batson, Sr. for forty one years. Olivia was a graduate of Anderson College and a retired employee with Stone Manufacturing. Mrs. Batson was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina and a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetables at her homes in Travelers Rest and Columbia. She moved to Inman, South Carolina, in 2014 and became the first resident in the Rosecrest Independent Living Apartments. Mrs. Batson is survived by three daughters, Patricia Boswell and her husband, Bill, of Inman, South Carolina; Marilyn Hager and her husband, Ron, of Greeneville, Tennessee; Carolyn Thompson, of Parlin, New Jersey; a son, Elliott Batson and his wife, Andrea, of Harrisburg, North Carolina; three sisters, Linda Jones, of Powdersville, South Carolina; Sheryl Dean Miller, of Anderson, South Carolina; Marcelle Sandzen, of Vera Beach, Florida; a brother, Prue Dacus, Jr., of Easley, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Quiavonna, Erin, Reggie, Andrew, Ross, Alex, Claire and one great-granddaughter, Gracie. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Batson was predeceased by a sister, Clara Hamilton and three brothers, Howard, Kenneth and Grover Dacus. A graveside service will be held at Skypointe Baptist Church Cemetery, Travelers Rest, South Carolina, formerly known as, Ebernezer Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 27, 2017, conducted by, Rev. Dan Batson. Memorials may be made to Rosecrest Retirement Center 200 Fortress Drive, Inman, South Carolina 29349 or Lutheran Hospice 300 Ministry Drive Irmo, South Carolina 29063. The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bill Boswell, 123 MacIntosh Lane, Inman, South Carolina 29349.
