Wellford, SC--- Nelson Lloyd Mathers, 89, of 745 Waspnest Rd. passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Ohio on June 22, 1927, he was a son of the late Lloyd Miles and Mary Lucretia (Mott) Mathers and was the widower of Elizabeth Ellen (Edgar) Mathers. Mr. Mathers served in the United States Army as a medic during the Korean War. He was a member of Spartanburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church and worked as a grade school teacher for 27 years. He is survived by his daughter, Malinda Beth Davis and her husband, James of Alpine, TX; two daughter-in-laws, Madelyn Mathers of Cleveland, TN and Kim Mathers of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Betty Jayne Mathers of Wellford, SC; seven grandchildren, Erin Mathers, Ashleigh Mathers, Austin Mathers (Kristie), Brittnay Mathers, Whitney Mathers, Ty Davis and Jonathan Davis; one great grandson, Patrick Mathers and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one son, Robin Mathers; one son-in-law, Harold Davis; one sister, Esther Clair Burkipile; one brother, Melvin Mathers and two great grandchildren, Shawn Brown and Emily Mathers. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
