Mildred Sue Whitten, 85, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at St. Francis Downtown in Greenville, South Carolina surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Norris, South Carolina on July 16, 1940, a daughter of the late Mildred (Merck) Cook and Benjamin Cook and was the wife of Guyon Eugene "Gene" Whitten having celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Sue and her husband Gene were the owners and operators of Boiling Springs Ace Hardware and members of Inman First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two sons: Stuart Whitten and his wife Emily, Mark Whitten and his wife Keaton; and one daughter, Suzanne Whitten Lockwood and seven grandchildren, Annabelle (Whitten) Durden and her husband Drew, Andrew Whitten, Rebecca Whitten, Daniel Whitten, Silas Whitten, Coraline Whitten, and Isaac Lockwood.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, William Cook and Raymond Cook; one sister, Jane Boggs and one son-in-law, Paul Lockwood.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026, in the Seawright Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeremiah Childers officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
