Mignon Laurens
Mignon St. Lawrence Gwinn Laurens of Inman, SC, passed away at Asheville Health Care Center on July 7, 2012 after a brief illness. Born January 1, 1922 in Watts Mill, Laurens County, SC, she grew up in Watts Mill, SC and Woodruff, SC. At age 18 Mignon went to work in the textile mill in Woodruff. On June 29, 1956 she married Hugh Darrell "Pete" Laurens and in 1958 they moved to 10 Third Street, Inman, SC. She resided there until a month prior to her death.
Mignon retired from Inman Mills as a weaver at the Saybrook Plant. After retirement she and Pete would travel to attend the annual reunions of the WWII 386th Bomb Squad Group of the Army Airforce, attend Atlanta Braves games and visit family and friends throughout the country. She loved her family, her friends and children. During the 1960's the Laurens' backyard was filled with mill hill kids playing baseball, football and basketball. She always recalled those boys and girls fondly. In 1991 Mignon gained a new son, James M. Davis Jr. When he married Joy, Jimmy became her son and she loved him dearly. She was very proud of what her daughter and her son-in-law had accomplished.
Mignon was predeceased by her parents, Maude Stroud and Lawrence Grady Gwinn, her son, Gerald Darrell "Jerry" Laurens, her husband, Hugh Darrell "Pete" Laurens and her sister, Dorothy Gwinn Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Joy Laurens Davis (Jimmy) of Weaverville, NC, a sister, Rachel Gwinn Pyle (Bob) of Round Rock, TX , and beloved cousin, Runette Banks of Joanna SC. Mignon will be missed greatly by her many nieces and nephews including Jane Brown Watson and Cheryl Brown Raines of Columbus, GA, and nephews Kenneth Brown of Charlotte and Michael Brown of Mountain Home, ID. Her Great nephew Rusty Raines, his wife Julie and her great great nephew Logan meant the world to her. She was Logan's Meemaw. Mignon is also survived by many relatives of the Laurens family who always had a special place in her heart and by her neighbor and good friend, Diane O'Bryant.
Visitation will be 1 PM Wednesday with a memorial service at 2 PM at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman, SC. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens following the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Beverly Deal and Mrs. Wanda Hubert for their support and assistance during the past month.
