Michael Stuart Holmes

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024 Michael Stuart Holmes passed away peacefully at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He was 75 years of age. Mike was a beloved husband, father of three, and grandfather to three. 

Mike was born May 17, 1949 to Dorthy Cox Holmes and William O. Holmes in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He grew up with his parents, two younger brothers and a younger sister. 

Mike attended primary and secondary school in Spartanburg, South Carolina, During this time, he was involved in many sports and was a Boy Scout achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14.

During a brief time away from the upstate, in Fort Worth, Texas, he met and married Jenny E. Holmes. In 1986, he returned to the upstate until his heavenly departure. 

Mike had a great love for nature and was never happier than being outdoors. He had a great and unique sense of humor, was an avid hunter, fisherman, and conservationist. Mike also loved giving back to his community. His volunteer work included spending weekends teaching outdoor skills with the Boy Scouts of America, building a sports complex in Campobello, giving back to the local soup kitchen, partnering with the local school district inviting students for pumpkin patch field trips, assisting with the horticulture program for Swofford Vocational School, and coaching baseball for the Campobello Youth Association for many years. 

Mike will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jenny, and his three children: Kevin (Mary Alice Holmes) and their son Will Holmes, Matt (Brooke Holmes) and their two children, and Nathan (Alle Holmes). He is also survived by his sister Donna Holmes. 

Receiving of friends will be held at Seawright Funeral Home, 26 E. Main Street Inman, SC, on Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 am - 10:45 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or your charity of choice.
