Inman, SC--- Michael Anthony "Tony" Emory, 70, of 168 Dogwood Road passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, SC. Born in Inman, SC on August 14, 1948, he was a son of the late Ed and Billie (Messer) Emory.
Tony served in the United States Army in Vietnam. During his tour of duty, he was notified that his cousin, Jack Messer, had been killed in action there. He served as the military escort for Jack back to the United States. He was of the Methodist faith and worked many years as a carpenter.
He is survived by his caregiver and cousin who was like a daughter, Tammy Dodd and her husband Jason of Inman, SC; one son, Mike Emory of Inman, SC; two brothers, Roger Emory and Todd Emory both of Inman, SC; three aunts, Marjorie Davis of Holly Springs, SC, Leota Messer of Landrum, SC and Nancy Dalton of Inman, SC; one uncle John Messer of Inman, SC, three grandchildren, Thomas, Makayla and Emily and a nephew, two nieces and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Scott Paul Emory; three aunts, Clara Stevens, Cris Messer Williams and Della Jackson, and two uncles, Fred Messer and Buck Messer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in the Seawright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Culbertson officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043 or Love Springs Baptist Church, 554 Sunny Slopes Drive, Cowpens, SC 29330.
