Melvin Earl Mathers, 95, of 735 Waspnest Road, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus awaiting the call of the life giver Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Fletcher, Ohio on October 5, 1920, he was a son of the late Lloyd Miles and Mary Lucretia (Mott) Mathers and was the husband of Betty Jayne (Glew) Mathers. Mr. Mathers was an ordained minister and teacher in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and also served in the United States Army as a medic with General Patton in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty, is his son, Arnet Mathers of Maine; one daughter, Sonja Eberhart and her husband, Charles of Wellford; one brother, Nelson Lloyd Mathers of Texas; two granddaughters , Ellen and SaraJayne and one great granddaughter , Rosalina.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Melvin Earl Mathers will be held Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Spartanburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1217 John B. White Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29306 conducted by Pastor Arnet Mathers and Dr. David Trott. A time of visitation will be held immediately after the service in Colburn Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Melvin Earl Mathers to: Eddlemon Adventist School, 1217 John B. White Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
