INMAN, SC - Rev. Melvin Edward Calvert, 81, of 101 Data Bush Drive, died Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Camp Care in Inman. Born in Inman, he was the son of the late Sidney and Fannie Mae Thompson Calvert and was the husband of Dr. Floride Martin Calvert.
Rev. Calvert was a member of the South Carolina Methodist Conference and served as pastor in many churches throughout the state. Prior to his ministerial service, he worked as an Industrial Engineer. He served in both the US Navy and the US Army.
Survivors include one son, Robert M. Calvert of Easley, SC, and two daughters, Jean Calvert and Lynn C. Halpin (Rick), of Greenville, SC, a sister, Margie C. Knighton of Augusta, Georgia, two stepdaughters, Patricia M. Henson (Jimmie) of Campobello and Mary M. Crawley (Michael) of Inman, and two stepsons, W. Buren Martin (Dorothy) and G. Christopher Martin (Ruth), both of Inman, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The Friendship Sunday School Class of Inman United Methodist Church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday, December 14th, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the Inman United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Ron Leonard officiating.
Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman.
