Melvie Opella Cox, 87, of 111 Dogwood Circle, Inman, passed away Sunday, January 20th, at Camp Care Nursing Home in Inman. She was born in Inman on November 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Nellie Amanda McCarter and Otis Strange. She was the widow of Cecil Harley Cox and had retired from Inman Mills.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Kinley and husband Tommy of Inman, Susan Gray of Inman, a brother, Donald Strange of Lyman, three sisters, Reba Pack and Faye Phillips of Campobello, Shirley High of Hendersonville, NC, a sister in law, Shirley Strange of Campobello, four grandchildren, Tammy Roddy (David), Timothy Kinley, Jamie Pearson (Charles), and Chris Holden; seven great grandchildren, Jessica Bruce (Ben), Hannah Wimberly (Jack), Betsy Roddy, Sloane Kinley, Thomas Pearson, Reagan Pearson, Jackson Pearson; and one great great grandchild, Madigan Bruce. She was predeceased by three sisters, Beulah Fowler, Belvie Strange, Stella Loftis and three brothers, Rev. J.B. Strange, Randolph Strange, and Audie Strange.
The family is at 111 Dogwood Circle, Inman and will receive friends 12:30 until 2:00pm Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in the sanctuary of Holston Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at Holston Creek Baptist Church, 2:00pm Tuesday, January 22, 2013 with Dr. Reggie Parker, Rev. Mark Cannon, Rev. Charles Pearson and Rev. Harold King officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills 130 Forest Glen Drive Columbus, NC 28722.
