Melanie Owens McArthur, 64, of 11 Jordan Street, Inman, SC, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum. Melanie was born in Spartanburg, SC on August 2, 1951, a daughter of the late Albert and Ida Belle (Messer) Owens. She was valedictorian for the Chapman High School Class of 1969 and attended Winthrop College. She was the wife of Smitty McArthur, Jr., retired from International Wire after 30 + years service and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Inman. In addition to her husband Melanie is survived by a daughter, Jennifer McArthur-Gilliam (Ray), of Columbia, SC; a son, Shep McArthur, III (Shelley), of Taylors, SC; a brother, Bart Owens (Karen), of Holly Springs, nephews, Robert and Kent Hammett of Inman and a special aunt, Nancy Dalton of Inman. The family is at the home and will receive friends Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 2:00 — 3:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev Mitch Crow officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
