Mrs. Mattie Johnson Ward, 86, went home to the Lord and her loved ones April 9, 2008 at White Oak Manor. She had been in declining health several years.
She was the daughter of the late J.A. "Gus" and Bessie Strange Johnson and was the widow of Edwin Ward. She is survived by two grandchildren, Jeff Ward and his wife Karen of Wellford, Julie Boling and her husband Andy, four great grandchildren, Rachel Ward, Rusty Johnson, Callie and Pruitt Boling, a daughter in law, Judy Ward of Spartanburg, and two sisters, Frances J. Foster and Eloise J. Donahoo, both of lnman. She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Ward and three infant children, five brothers, Paul, Ralph, Leon, Wofford, and Virgil Johnson and one sister, Roey J. Collins.
She was a member of Jackson Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Seawright Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jim McMakin. Burial will be in Holston Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends following the funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, PO Box 461 Spartanburg, S.C. 29304.
