Mattie Hammett Medley Brown, 85, of 304 Rangeview Circle, Greenville, SC formerly of Inman, went to join her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday evening at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Inman, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Walter and Beulah Brittain Hammett and the wife of John C, (Jack) Brown of the home. She is also survived by a daughter, Martha Medley Rogers and her husband, Denver of Rock Hill, two sons, Charles E. (Buddy) Medley of Atlanta, Michael L, (Mickey) Medley and his wife Geri, of Gaffney, two stepsons, John C. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Teresa of Myrtle Beach, William Gordon Brown and his wife Debbie of Winchester, Va., and a stepdaughter, Pat Brown Hines and her husband Scott of Hickory, NC. There are 7 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, She was predeceased by four sisters, Lucille Newman, Flora Mae Reid and Pauline and Edna Hammett.
She worked for many years with her first husband,the late Landrum W. Medley, who managed the Inman Oil Company with her at his side. Together, they served numerous churches in music leadership. They served at Inman First Baptist Church, Apalache Baptist and Hillcrest Baptist in Greer and Grace Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
She was a member of Berea Heights Baptist Church, where memorials may be sent to: 6914 White Horse Road, Greenville, S. C. 29617
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at 11:00 A. M. at Inman First Baptist Church conducted by Revs. Randall M. Jones and Gary Cooper, Sr. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P. M. today at Seawright Funeral Home at 26 E. Main St., Inman.
The family will be at the home at 304 Rangeview Circle, Greenville, S. C. and 128 Chambers Road, Gaffney.
