Mary Carolyn Matthews, 80, of White Avenue, Spartanburg, passed away Friday, November 15th, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Spartanburg on September 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Vivian Lois Seay Thomas and Smith Thomas. She was the widow of Truman Matthews. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Matthews and his wife Debra of Gaffney, three grandsons, Dalton Matthews of Gaffney, Josh Townsend and wife Lori of Boiling Springs, Jacob Townsend and wife Alicia of Boiling Springs, two great grandchildren, Zoe and Joscelin Townsend of Boiling Springs, two brothers and four sisters, Body Thomas of Spartanburg, Frances Campsen of Spartanburg, Brenda Ann Garrett of Jonesville, Janice Brown of Tennessee, Sherry Reid of Campobello, and Jimmy Thomas of Boiling Springs. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by a daughter, Donna Townsend.
Funeral services will be held at Seawright Funeral Home, Inman, at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 17th, with Rev. Tim Hackett officiating. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seawright Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society 154 Mile Stone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
