Mary Jean Quinn Settle, passed away peacefully in her daughter's home surrounded by her family on March 17, 2024, at the age of 97.
Born November 10, 1926, in Gramling, SC, on her family farm, she was the daughter of the late William Christenberry Quinn and Minnie Mae Stone Quinn. She was the widow of Mr. Rufus Woodrow Settle Sr., who predeceased her on March 18, 1994.
Jean graduated from Gramling High School, class of 1945, where she was a member of the Beta Club and the girls' basketball team. She also attended North Greenville College. She was a long-time member of Inman First Baptist Church where she served for over 60 years in the preschool department. Lovingly known as Sugarfoot, she enjoyed camping in her Airstream, trips to the beach, pajama parties with her grandchildren, watching Hallmark movies with her great grandchildren, baking pound cakes, and Sunday Dinners around her dinning room table.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Jean Deal and her husband Scott of Anderson, SC; daughter-in-law Charlene Settle of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Mary Anne Jenkins (Trey), Emily Cummins (Ryan), Hollins Martinez (Luis), Susan Hayes (Josh), Ralph Settle (Jennifer), Patrick Settle (Mary Helen) and Christopher Settle; and seven great grandchildren Avery and Sumner Cummins, Sophia, Elaine, and Lillian Martinez, Ruby Settle, and Mary Quinn Settle. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ramona Settle and brother-in-law, Sam Settle (Patricia), and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Settle was preceded in death by sons, Rufus Woodrow Settle II and Dennis Ralph Settle; daughter-in-law Brenda Settle; and twin grandsons Raymond and Johnathan Settle. She is also predeceased by her siblings Walter Quinn, Annie Faye Page, Frank Quinn, Thurman Quinn, Agnes Cannon, Clara Allison, Marvin Quinn, and Robert Quinn; her parents by marriage Huber Hollins and Maggie Edwards Settle; and her siblings by marriage Hubert Settle (Ginny), Ralph Settle (Ruby), David Settle, Betty Tomlinson (Albert), and Mary Louise Raines (Gerald).
Mrs. Settle will be available for viewing at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman from noon, Wednesday, March 20th until noon, Thursday, March 21st. Graveside funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 21st at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Paul Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
