Marvin Dean Johnson, 85, of 4053 Watts Bridge Road in Cross Hill, SC, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum.
Marvin was born on May 6, 1935, a son of the late Ella Mae Rhymer Johnson and Joe Howard Johnson and was the widower of Betty Ruth Hipp Johnson.
He retired from Springs Industries and was a Methodist.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita J. Loy and her husband, Douglas of Spartanburg, two sisters, Diane Strange of Campobello, Alma Jean Turner and her husband Sam of Boiling Springs, a grandson, Chance Jacob Loy of Spartanburg, and a great granddaughter, Piper Marie Loy of Spartanburg. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Marvin Dean Johnson, Jr., four sisters, Shirley Pruitt, Nellie Hutchins, Lucille Wolfe, Katie Abernathy, and two brothers, J.V. Johnson and Harold Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Seawright Funeral Chapel conducted by Brian Collins and Matthew Warren. The family will visit with guest following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, Il 60611-3201
