Martha Elrod Bearden Duncan, 95, formerly of 220 Boulder Court, Cowpens, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Golden Age Nursing Home, in Inman, South Carolina. Martha was born in Gadsden, Alabama on December 1, 1921, a daughter of the late Robert and Samantha Smith Elrod. She was first married to the late James Bearden and also widowed by her second husband, Isaac Duncan, Jr. Martha was of the Baptist faith and a retired employee of Inman Mills. Martha is survived by a son, Mickey Bearden and his wife Cyndi of Inman, South Carolina; a sister, Myrtis Clifton, of Opelika, Alabama; four grandchildren, Claude Turner and his wife, Brenda; Bill Turner and his wife, Michelle; Christy Gilreath and her husband, Tony; Chris Bearden and his wife, Traci; six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and spouses, Mrs. Duncan was predeceased by a daughter, Jackie Turner, two sisters and a brother. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is at the home of the grandson, Chris Bearden, 7133 Burnett Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29316. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Martha Duncan Memorial Fund, PO Box 192, Inman, South Carolina 29349.
