Marion J Mitchem, 89, of Wellford, went to Heaven Monday, February 18th, after a brief illness. He was also known to friends and family as "M.J.", "Mitch", or "Shorty".
He was born in Spartanburg on March 13, 1923, a son of the late Elizabeth Shields and Adam Mitchem. He was first married to the late Virginia McDaniel Mitchem for 50 years and later married the late Helen Rabon Mitchem who was formerly of Camden, SC. He retired from Hammond-Brown-Jennings Furniture Company and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn High of Glenn Springs, son Steve Mitchem and his wife Janice of Inman, a sister, Utha McKinney of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Chad Peake (Molly), Kasey Prato (Erick), Heath Mitchem, Jamie Mitchem (Christy), and six great grandchildren; Autumn Mitchem, Maddie Grace Peake, Will Mitchem, Clara Prato, Ann Claire Peake, and Lucas Prato.
The family is at the home of Steve and Janice Mitchem at 314 Rosa Point, Inman and will receive friends at Seawright Funeral Home from 6:30 until 8:00pm Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 3:00pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Monty King officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
