Mallie Groce Cromer

April 14, 1920 — August 30, 2014

Mallie Caroline Groce Cromer, widow of Benjamin Luther Cromer, Sr., died August 30, 2014 after a short illness.
Daughter of the late Joseph Cornelius Groce and the late Corrie Etta Griffin Groce, Mallie was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 14, 1920. She was a graduate of Fairforest High School and life-long member of Southside Baptist Church of Spartanburg, joining the Cradle Roll on September 12, 1920 and later The Gleaners Sunday School Class.
A homemaker, Mallie was also a member of the Joshua Hawkins chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and past President of the Spartanburg Women's Club.
She was predeceased by four brothers, a sister, her grandson, Benjamin Luther Cromer, III, and son-in-law James Rhett Miller. Surviving are her three children: Brenda Carol Cromer Miller, of Winnsboro, SC; Benjamin Luther Cromer, Jr. and wife Bruce, of Inman, SC; and Joseph Newton Cromer and wife Carol, of Saraland, AL. She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Groce Little, of Spartanburg, SC and Doris Groce Davenport of Mansfield, TX; four grandchildren: Quentin McCoy Miller Salerno and husband John, Sydney Cromer Miller Norris and husband Robert, Christine Mitchell Cromer Meerman and husband Richard, and Joseph Benjamin Cromer; and three great-grandchildren: Mallie Caroline Salerno, Mary Lillian Louise Salerno and Cornelia Caroline Meerman.
The family will receive friends in the foyer at Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street in Spartanburg, on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd at 1:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with the Rev. David Blanton and Dr. Schuyler Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Springfield Place of Newberry and Newberry County Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care and attention they provided "Miss Mallie" over the past few years.
