Mrs. Madelene H. Fanning
Spartanburg, SC---Mrs. Madelene Hutchinson Fanning, 81, of 1224 Mt. Zion Rd. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 at Valley Falls Terrace.
Mrs. Fanning was born in Newberry, SC on May 6, 1927, the daughter of the late Clarence Eugene and Lucy (Hughey) Hutchinson and was the loving wife of the late Rev. Mims Harth Fanning for 47 years.
Mrs. Fanning attended Newberry College and was a graduate of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, NC. She was a longtime resident of Walterboro, S. C. and was a very active member at the Walterboro First Baptist Chruch. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and had been very involved in many churches in both North and South Carolina. Her church was her life. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 15 years old. She was the teacher of the Dorcas Sunday School Class at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, was involved in the nursing home ministry of the Inman Health Care and also held Bible studies in her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Fanning Poag and her husband Thomas M. of Spartanburg and Sheryl Fanning Brown and her husband James C. of Greer; two grandsons, Captain Andrew Lawrence Brown of the United States Air Force and his wife Brooke B. of Navarre Beach, FL. and Ryan Thomas Poag of Spartanburg; two sisters Mrs. S.C. Tindal of Florence and Miss Lucy Hutchinson of Newberry, SC; five nephews and five nieces. She was predeased by four brothers and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 27th, with Rev. Monty King and Dr. James Crocker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Saturday evening, July 26, 2008 from 5-7 PM. at Seawright Funeral Home.
